Milano Santa Giulia, a new urban district is under redevelopment in the south-east of Milan. The centrepiece of the area is a new arena, catering for sports and cultural events. It will serve as a venue for the Winter Olympic Games in early 2026.

Challenge:

  • Multiple cross contamination by hydrocarbons & heavy metals, among clean.

Solutions:

  • Executive design carried out by SARPI Remediation.
  • Excavation of 1,2M m³ of material.
  • On site soil treatment by washing within a large plant designed, constructed & operated by SARPI Remediation.
  • On site material reuse after treatment.
  • Evacuation of 300.000 tonnes of material not compatible with human health criteria. 
  • Groundwater treatment: In situ groundwater remediation by ZVI and Pump & Treat for chlorinated compounds. 170m³/h flow rate.
  • Organisation: JV with civil works & land remediation company Semp.
